Your Piano Needs Tuning!

I am a piano technician who works for Yamaha Corporation of America. I have been working on pianos for five years and have sufficient knowledge in piano technology and performance. I apprenticed under Alan Eder alongside Richard Davenport and studied piano technology at the California Institute of the Arts; I worked on Steinway & Sons rebuilds at Faust Harrison Pianos in White Plains, New York; and I worked as a piano technician at University of California, Los Angeles where I tuned and maintained concert, recording studio, classroom, and practice room pianos. I hold an Associate of Arts for Transfer degree in Music from Antelope Valley College, Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance degree from California State University, Northridge, and I pursued a Master of Fine Arts degree from California Institute of Arts.

I service Yorba Linda and Orange County!

Tuning

Tuning your piano at least once a year is crucial for its longevity. Manufacturers recommend that pianos be tuned four times in the first year that they are purchased, then after that they must be tuned twice a year. If the piano is used excessively, I would recommend that it be tuned twice a year. If the piano is not used frequently, I would recommend tuning it once a year. Curious about my prices? Cleaning

We often don’t see the sheer amount of dust, dirt, and debris within our pianos simply because they are either covered by music desks, the lid the piano, or piano covers. However, once opened, all of the secrets are revealed. Your piano would love a spa day! Curious about my prices? Book an appointment to compare!

Repairs

“My piano has sticky keys and it’s driving me insane!”. Not only do I hear this from customers, I’ve said this myself plenty of times as a performer! Not only do I fix sticky keys, I can also fix:
-Sluggish keys
-Squeaky pedals
-Buzzes
-Broken strings (splice/replace)
-Broken key tops
-Broken hammers
-Etc.!

Regulating

Regulating your piano means that the piano will undergo some maintenance that will ultimately make the piano feel better. Some pianos will feel too heavy while others will feel too loose. The compromise of regulating a piano would mean that the action would meet somewhere in the middle of heavy and loose. I have regulated over one hundred uprights as well as many grands. This process is the most time-extensive and expensive, however very necessary for serious pianists and concert pianos. Curious about my prices? Book an appointment to compare!

Voicing

Voicing your piano means that the piano will undergo some maintenance that will ultimately make the piano sound better. Some pianos will sound too bright while others will sound too soft. This also requires a compromise of meeting in the middle; or have it simply depend on the customer’s preference. This process will also include a step called, “hammer filing” where the hammers will have wool felt sanded off in order to create a balloon shape. Curious about my prices? Specialities

Disklavier and Hybrid Pianos. I am able to troubleshoot, fix, and upgrade various models of Yamaha Disklaviers, Silent, TransAcoustic, and Hybrid pianos (I.e. N1X). If your Yamaha Disklavier has an E3 or Mark IV model, it is eligible for an upgrade to the latest model, DKC900 which comes with new gadgets and gizmos that will give your piano a brand new feel!
Bechstein Varios. I am also equipped to install, troubleshoot, regulate, and fix Bechstein upright pianos with vario systems installed on them.
Concert Pianist. Not only am I a professional piano technician, I am also a professional pianist. I have played solo recitals, held master classes, been a rehearsal pianist for choirs, taught, and even collaborated with others for their instrument or vocal recitals. I have a keen sense for the piano that most other piano technicians do not have simply because they do not have the advantage of having professional experience as performing pianists.

Testimonies

Vic is an exceptionally fine piano tuner who I highly recommend! Our piano needed its first ever repair and I was dreading the experience based on how all other repairs, transactions, services, upgrades, downgrades, purchases, sales, adjustments and general maintenance have gone around here the last few years.
Victor Hernandez to the rescue. He communicated well over the phone, showed up on time, worked for a long time and fixed the broken keys and tuned the piano beautifully. Then, he didn’t charge me nearly enough for his time and expertise. What else can I say? If you don’t have a piano, get one so you too can have this extremely satisfying experience.
When was the last time you had something go this well? -Karen Sklar

Vic shows nothing but the absolute best of skill in tuning pianos. Vic is not only amazing at his job, but is also very honest and very fair with prices. We hired Vic to tune a 1930s upright piano and it ended up sounding absolutely wonderful. I will literally only be contacting Vic for all piano tuning needs until he retires! Don’t hesitate to give him a call and schedule a tuning, i promise you that it will change your life! -TMEG Studios

I was looking for a piano tuner and found Vic through Nick Rail Music in Velencia. I set up the appointment for my piano tuning and he was on time and very thorough explaining what he needed to do and the cost was very fair. I would highly recommend Vic for your piano tuning needs -Clyde Matsumura
